Nintendo has just released firmware 9.0.0-20U for the 3DS, which brings a very functional update to the portable console with custom themes. The new update also brings in a new theme shop where you can purchase themes as they are released. As for now you get to select from 5 pre-installed themes on top of the default one that the system already had.
Along with this update is a new consolidated menu button in the top left corner of the bottom screen. This provides access to themes, screen brightness, power-saving mode, image share, and system settings.
There may not be very many themes to choose from currently on the 3DS eShop, but Nintendo is going to start pushing quite a few themes in the future. If you would like to take a quick look Nintendo’s website you can see a plethora of themes that Nintendo has already created for its customers in Japan. Let’s hope they bring some more of these over stateside soon.
