According to IGN Nintendo announced their newest addition to their handheld family today – the Nintendo 2DS.
The 2DS will play both DS and 3DS games, but without any 3D functionality. Nintendo says the new handheld will be available on the same day as Pokemon X and Y, October 12, 2013 for $129.99.
The most noticeable difference between the 2DS and Nintendos other recent handhelds is the lack of clamshell design. Instead the 2DS has a tablet-esque form. Nintendo made a point of confirming that all functions that are in the 3DS aside from the 3D remains int he 2DS, such as WiFi, and the augmented reality capabilities. However the new handheld will only have one speaker with as opposed to the 3DS’s two.
**So I guess April 1st came early this year. I’m sorry, what? This is real?**
The 2DS will launch on October 12 in red and blue for $129.99. The regular 3DS and 3DS XL are still available.
Will you be going to grab a 2DS for a nephew, niece or child? Or perhaps you’re as baffled as I am by this announcement! Seriously – who is this for? Sound off in the comments down below and maybe I’ll convince someone to actually buy this thing!
