After Nintendo’s nostalgia-filled video announcing their plans for E3, many were left wondering about what game Nintendo would use and where the qualifiers would be. After a week of silence, Nintendo has officially announced the details for the qualifiers.
The game selected is, no surprise, the Championship mode in Ultimate NES Remix on the Nintendo 3DS. It’s an easy choice since the mode emulates the structure of the original 1990 Nintendo World Championships. The mode gives players 6 minutes and 21 seconds to complete three challenges. These challenges include collecting 50 coins in Super Mario Bros., then collecting 25 coins in Super Mario Bros. 3, then using any time they have left to get as high of a score as possible in Dr. Mario.
Nintendo also announced the Best Buy locations that will be used for the Nintendo World Championship qualifiers. The eight locations are:
1717 Harrison St.
San Francisco, CA
3675 Pacific Coast Highway
Torrance, CA
900 E. Golf Road
Schaumburg, IL
12905 Elm Creek Blvd. N
Maple Grove, MN
5001 Northern Blvd.
Long Island City, NY
9378 N. Central Expressway
Dallas, TX
The locations will be hosting the NWC qualifiers between 10 AM and 7 PM local time.
If you want to take a shot at qualifying for the Nintendo World Championships, make sure to get to your preferred location early since only the first 750 contestants with a properly filled out entry form will get a chance. The player with the highest score from each location will go on to the Championship round in Los Angeles on June 14th, two days before the official start of E3.
