Nintendo has confirmed that the upcoming Nintendo NX console will see a release in March 2017. Bizarrely, this reveal comes not from an official announcement at an event or press conference, but tucked away in a quarterly financial report. The document states:
“Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed ‘NX’ with a brand-new concept. NX will be launched in March 2017 globally.”
In an equally strange move, the company has also said that it won’t be showing off the upcoming hardware at E3, but that the next installment in the The Legend Of Zelda series would be the feature of its keynote presentation instead. They also confirmed on Twitter that the game would release on both Wii U and the new console simultaneously.

There is still a lot of mystery surrounding the Nintendo NX, although there’s been no shortage of rumors — some of which have been confirmed fake. A report from the Wall Street Journal in October suggests the hardware could even be a console/mobile hybrid. Nintendo, however, have neither confirmed nor denied any claims made about the console, and it seems they’re not ready to lift the lid on their new hardware just yet.
