Overwatch fans have felt a bit left behind for a while, but that may change with the announcement of Overwatch 2 at Blizzcon today.
Overwatch 2 will bring a whole new buffet to the table over the first game, with brand new PvE-centric content — that’s right, story content! Overwatch 2 will have a campaign for players to push through in co-op, and it will have Hero Missions which allow players to manually level their heroes and make them stronger a la’ ARPGs.
The game will pack plenty of a PvP punch, though. A new Push PvP mode and new PvP maps are inbound, but that doesn’t mean players of the current game will be pushed to the side.
Those who own the original Overwatch will be able to play with Overwatch 2 players on maps and with characters from the sequel. Not only that, but everything that players have unlocked in the original title will carry over to the sequel as well. That is not too shabby, and almost gives this a bit of an expansion vibe over a straight sequel.
The announcement of Overwatch 2 wasn’t the biggest surprise, but Blizzard’s approach to it being a sequel is. More about the game is sure to be announced over Blizzcon 2019.
