Pachter Riles Up PlayStation Fans Because He Can’t Count

Or so it would seem.

For the record, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has made plenty of accurate predictions in the past. I’ve seen most of his notes and analyses over the years and for the most part, they’re at least in the ballpark. Granted, some of his statements seem painfully obvious to core gamers but hey, they’re still right.

However, Pachter has taken a dislike to Sony over the past few weeks; specifically, since the unveiling of the new streaming service, PlayStation Now. The analyst has called this service a “joke,” and it “has no prayer of working.” Gamers retorted, many reminding Pachter that Sony has a lot of great first-party content.

Journalist and host Geoff Keighley said the very same thing in the most recent Bonus Round episode. Pachter’s reply:

“A lot is a stretch. Thirty. They have thirty games.”

That number is not accurate. In fact, in looking at the catalogue of first-party PS3 titles, it’s not even remotely close to accurate. It’s possible that he’s only counting franchises and not individual titles but even then, does that not compare favorably to the competition? How many does Microsoft have, for example?

I’m guessing Pachter will probably revise that statement at some point, because it’s just so ludicrously off-base. Still, I wonder what’s crawled up this guy’s butt concerning Sony…what’d he do, lose money on their stock, or something?
