Back in January last year, Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) and the PlanetSide 2 team announced their partnership with Chinese publisher, The9. Based on this company’s past operations, it should be responsible for not only launching the game in China, as well as potentially developing content. The9 also owns a large stake to another large up-and-coming game, FireFall, and they should be marketing the game in China, as well as being the previous distributor of Blizzard‘s World of Warcraft in the region.
PlanetSide 2 has been fully released in China as of June 25th.
It seems like Sony Online Entertainment‘s choice has paid off, big time. The president of SOE, John Smedley, has announced on his twitter that PlanetSide 2, although it had just launched just over eight hours prior, has already seen bigger numbers in China than they ever have seen in their North American launch and release.
Here’s the official site for Planetside 2 in China.
