PlayStation has announced a new partnership with Discord, the popular communication app widely known and used across all spheres of the gaming community.
This news comes from a blog post on the official PlayStation Blog, where Sony President and CEO Jim Ryan said he’s “excited to announce a new partnership with Discord, the communication service popularized by gamers and used by more than 140 million people every month around the world”
Ryan said further:
At PlayStation, we’re constantly looking for new ways to enable players around the world to connect with one another, form new friendships and communities, and share fun experiences and lasting memories. It’s in this spirit that we’re excited to announce a new partnership with Discord, the communication service popularized by gamers and used by more than 140 million people every month around the world.
The full statement from Ryan can be seen on the PlayStation Blog.
This news comes a little over a month after rumors about the possibility of Microsoft buying Discord, and it further sheds the light on why that transaction perhaps never got any traction.
This partnership is another example of Sony investing in companies to create partners, such as Sony’s recent re-investment into Epic Games.
It will be interesting to see how this partnership develops, and what exactly Discord integration with PS5 and PS4 could look like. Stay tuned to GameSkinny in the coming months for details.
