Budding filmmakers aged over 18 and based in the United States have until August 1st, 2017 to submit their ideas on the PlayStation Emerging Filmmakers website. The top 10 will be selected by August 21st and flown to LA, where they will have the opportunity to pitch their idea to a panel of judges from PlayStation and the film industry. Out of this shortlist, the judges will pick 5 pitches to make into pilot shows, which will be available to view on PS4. These pilots may also be given the green light to begin production as fully fledged TV shows.

SIEA is running this contest alongside creative agency Ideas United, who most notably introduced the Campus MovieFest in 2001, allowing students at various universities across the US to get their work showcased throughout the world. Senior Vice President of Marketing at SIEA, Eric Lampel, stated:

“PlayStation is the home to powerful narratives in video games, and now we’re extending that into the world of original video content. This program presents a great opportunity for the next generation of filmmakers, and we look forward to discovering and fostering new talent alongside the PlayStation community.”

With the growing availability of TV shows on the PlayStation Store, this contest will potentially allow the console to have its own original programming rivaling that of Amazon and Netflix.
