A new leak suggests a brand-new Star Wars game called Star Wars: Project Maverick is in the works. Based on the source of the leak, we may be hearing about it sooner rather than later.

The PlayStation Store’s vulnerable back end has provided tech savvy snoopers with the information (thanks GamesRadar). It’s the same way we found out about Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake last year, shortly before it was officially announced. That could mean a proper Project Maverick announcement is headed our way in the next few days.

The bigger question is what is Star Wars: Project Maverick? We already know new Star Wars games are in the works, despite lots of cancellations. If it’s this close to release, then we can easily discount any of the known and strongly rumored projects, like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order‘s sequel or Knights of the Old Republic remakes.

“Maverick” in the title and the X-Wings going up against a Star Destroyer sort of get our hopes up for a new starfighter game in the same vein as Rogue Squadron. While there’s no telling what it’ll actually be. Kotaku’s Jason Schreier says it’s the smaller, unusual project he mentioned in his feature about the cancelled Star Wars projects.

Hopefully, we’ll know soon. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more Star Wars: Project Maverick news as it takes off.
