Earlier this year, there were rumors about a possible live action Pokemon movie being made. Nintendo and The Pokemon Company were talking to several movie studios about the rights to the famous franchise, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The competition has ended and we now know which movie studio will bring these beloved characters to the big screen once again.
Legendary Pictures, who also made The Dark Knight trilogy and The Hangover trilogy, has secured the movie rights for Pokemon.
The first live action Pokemon film will focus on Detective Pikachu who was first introduced in Great Detective Pikachu on the Nintendo 3DS earlier this year. Pikachu will team up with a young boy named Tim Goodman to solve mysteries involving other Pokemon around the city.
Pokemon made its feature film debut in Pokemon: The First Movie, which was first released in Japan back in 1998. The new film is set to begin production in 2017.
