Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX launches March 6 for Nintendo Switch, and The Pokemon Company just released a trailer exploring the causes behind the problems you help solve during your Rescue Team work.
Though the above trailer is in Japanese, the good folks at Siliconera provided a translation. And the gist is that it’s ultimately unchanged from the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Team games from back in the day.
The Pokemon world is wracked with natural disasters, but things have gotten worse. These changes in the environment, like huge blizzards and violent eruptions, cause Mystery Dungeons to appear, and they also agitate the Pokemon in the area.
That’s bad because it makes these Pokemon your enemies, and it disturbs the ultra-powerful Legendary Pokemon in the area as well.
Whiscash then talks about the Kangaskhan statues at the entrance to each Mystery Dungeon where you can stash all your items to keep them safe. Why do they exist? Because once upon a time, a kindly Kangaskhan got lost in a dungeon and decided to sacrifice herself to create these statues that would help guide future explorers.
Lest ye fear Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX veers into Cubone’s dead mother territory, though, this tale is completely false. The storage chain’s owner pops in to let you know Whiscash is basically full of seaweed and not to believe a word of that particular story. Kangaskhan finds and deals with the items all on her own.
The trailer is a good way to mix some cute lightheartedness in with a slightly darker tone. That pretty much encapsulates the appeal of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon on the whole. But whether that and the gorgeous art style is enough to offset the same-ness of this particular port remains to be seen.
