The Japanese Pokémon site has unveiled that a big announcement is coming.
The Banner on the site reads: “This summer, details of a stunning new project from Pokémon will be announced.” The announcement is set for August 26th.
Fan speculation ranges from, “new Pokémon Snap” to “Pokémon Adventures Anime” to something to do with Pikachu. The last speculation may be on to something since the word “”shougeki” in “shougeki no shin purojekuto” means “shocking” or “stunning.” The electric mouse has been such an important face for Pokémon, being the World Cup Mascot for Japan this same year. Pikachu is also set to get exclusive(as of now) cosplay options in the upcoming Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
A new Pokémon Snap, or just a full-on Pokémon WiiU game, are possible. Pokémon hasn’t had a good console game since the Gamecube. It could be that Nintendo will use Pokémon’s popularity to help WiiU sales. Let’s not forget that in May, Iwata talked about the poor WiiU sales saying this:
“The fate of a video game system is often influenced greatly by the introduction of a single title. As many of you probably remember, before the release of the Pokémon game, Game Boy had been showing slow growth, and many people wondered whether it was the end of Game Boy, but the Pokémon game singlehandedly changed the landscape of the system, which then started to show the strongest sales in the lifecycle of the system.”

Nintendo knows Pokémon sells. So the announcement may be something to boost sales after their unfortunate trend in annual losses.
The event will be streamed on NicoNico, where they are referring to this as a “big announcement” as well. Pokémon Company President, Tsunekazu Ishihara and voice actors, Nobuhiko Okamoto, and Aoi Yuki are set to appear.
So what do you guys think the announcement will be? New Pokémon game? Another Pokémon remake? Or something unrelated to games? Let us know in the comments.
