Prepare for Trouble — Team Rocket GO Leaders Appear in Pokemon GO

And make it double because Giovanni is lurking in the darkness, too. Fortunately, you can claim Team GO Rocket's new Shadow Pokemon if you win.

Following on from Pokemon Go‘s Halloween special event, three Team GO Rocket Leaders are starting to appear in Niantic’s mobile Pokemon spinoff. The Leaders are just the beginning of the GO world’s trouble, though, as their arrival precedes the arrival of Team Rocket and Team GO Rocket boss Giovanni.

All the GO Rocket Leaders are packing new and stronger Shadow Pokemon as well, but you can’t take them down willy-nilly.

First, you’ll need to complete Professor Willow’s new Special Research task, Looming in the Shadows (which requires completing the previous A Troubling Situation quest).

It’s not quite as easy as it sounds for a few reasons, but we spell it all out in our comprehensive Looming in the Shadows guide.

In between finishing the Special Research tasks, you’ll be catching Shadow Pokemon, Purifying them (which you can find out about here), and taking on the three Team GO Rocket Leaders in preparation for the big showdown against Giovanni himself. Plus, you’ll have the chance to catch a legendary Shadow Pokemon.

The quest is live now, and you can check out the full announcement here. It’s all still unfolding over the next week or so, though, so check back for more details as they develop.
