Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney Localization “in the Works”

Rejoice: Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney might finally be coming to a store near you.

Professor Layton and Ace Attorney are arguably two of the best-selling Nintendo DS series of all time, with the former at over 13 million copies sold in March 2012 and the latter at over 4 million copies sold in December 2011. Between their positions on the handheld charts and their similarities in gameplay, they dominated a market of adventure-loving gamers. And when Professor Layton’s Level-5 announced a 3DS adventure puzzle crossover on October 19, 2010, fans rejoiced.

Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney was released in Japan on November 29, 2012. Nine months later, a Western release has still not been announced.

Fortunately, all hope may not be lost for the West. At the Japan Expo in France last week, Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino was asked whether the game would ever make it over to Europe. His response?

“Something is in the works, but I can’t talk about it today. Please be patient.”

Although nothing has been confirmed, the hint is optimistic. The crossover, which received 35 out of 40 points on Famitsu, should see a satisfying release: in a Level-5 International America Inc. poll on Facebook conducted in July 2011, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney was voted as the most desired localization with over 6,000 votes.

As of June 2013, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney has sold nearly 300,000 copies in Japan.
