Sony has announced that the PS4 has sold over 20.2 million units worldwide as of the first of this month.
The news was revealed at the 2015 Game Developers Conference on Tuesday night. It continues to show how popular Sony’s new console is, as it’s still the fastest-selling console from the company.
Andrew House, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, was happy with the milestone in his quote from the press release.
“We are so grateful for the enormous support from PlayStation fans worldwide, and we are truly humbled that gamers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play.”
PS4 has sold close to 2 million units just in January. Microsoft hasn’t been as public with their sales on Xbox One. They’ve hit over 10 million in November 2014 according to Gamespot and the number is around 11.5 million according to VGChartz.
There’s still a hefty difference among the two consoles, but Microsoft did gain expected traction by having the Xbox One outsell the PS4 when the price was severely cut — $50 less than the competitor during the holiday season. It could narrow the margin even further now that it’s been at $350 since mid-January and doesn’t look like it will be changing anytime soon.
