Insomniac Games’ newest entry in the Ratchet & Clank series is set to launch next week on April 12th in the United States.
The game, which was announced at the PlayStation E3 press conference in 2014, is billed as a “reimagining” of the original Ratchet & Clank on PlayStation 2, featuring elements from newer titles. It will also feature new boss fights, new planets to explore and new flight sequences.
The title boasts an hour of new cinematics and a plethora of weapons from throughout the franchise’s history, and also takes a deeper look into the characters and plot of the original game. New weapons will debut, including the Pixelizer, which transforms your enemies into explosive 8-bit pixels.
The newest Ratchet & Clank isn’t just a standalone title though — it ties into the upcoming feature film release, premiering April 29th. Depicting the meeting of our heroes and how they saved the Solana Galaxy, the game will use various scenes from the movie to expand its newly reimagined story. The movie has had direct involvement from members of developer Insomniac Games, including former senior writer T.J. Fixman, who began writing for the franchise with the Future saga.
The game will be launching at a lower price point of $39.99, and players who pre-order will receive the exclusive Bouncer weapon which debuted in Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando.
