Ratchet & Clank Movie Lands in 2015 – Yeah!

Let's hope the Ratchet & Clank movie breaks the legendarily bad trend of game to movie adaptations.

Ratchet & Clank just may be one of the last video game franchises I expected to be announced for a movie. Not because the series isn’t great — It just didn’t seem like something that would happen.

Joke’s on me, because it’s happening. It’s happening in 2015 and based on the trailer above, it doesn’t look terrible. The world’s all topsy-turvy!

The Ratchet & Clank movie is being made by Rainmaker Entertainment in conjunction with independent production company Blockade Entertainment, and a chunk of Insomniac staff. This will make the first CGI video game movie to get a full-on theatrical release (Wreck-It Ralph does not count.), thanks to the series having sold 26 million units since its inception.

GameSkinny’s own John Gaudiosi spoke with Insomniac’s Ryan Schneider to give us a sneak peak into the movie’s production and how it came to be. Well-worth a read for any Ratchet & Clank fan getting hyped for 2015.

A new Ratchet & Clank game, please.

We are all (I assume) aware of Hollywood and the game industry loving a good movie and game tie-in, so one can’t help but wonder if we’ll be getting a new and robust Ratchet & Clank game to go with this shiny new movie. We have a long time to wait, but here’s to hoping we get a good movie and a good game out of this production effort.
