Red Bull Battle Grounds is heading back to Washington D.C. for the grand finals of its Starcraft 2 Archon Mode tournament. Starting June 19th, pairs of players have been competing in qualifiers up to this point in a brand new system of competitive Starcraft II. This has been a huge change from the typical 1v1 style that Starcraft is known for.
In Archon mode, each side is controlled not by one person, but two. So not only will players need to monitor their own bases and armies but also communicate with one another about how to strategize against the other players.
The real question is, who will be playing this weekend in this tournament?
Choi “Bomber” Ji Sung and Mun “MMA” Seong Won.
Bomber and MMA are both Terran players. Last year Bomber was able to win Red Bull Battle Grounds in a 4-0 match against Cure. Then MMA was able to climb far into Starcraft II World Championship Series walking away with 2nd place.
Kim “viOLet” Dong Hwan and Maru “MaSa” Kim
Also representing Terran, viOlet was able to come in 3rd/4th place at the 2014 Red Bull Battle Grounds: Detroit and Atlanta, so he has experience playing against Bomber. MaSa from ROOT Gaming is also no stranger with the competition as he also had to go against HuK for the finals of the SHOUTcraft America Winter.
Chris “HuK” Loranger + Jang “MC” Min Chul
Both Protoss players, HuK is no stranger to the competition from playing at Red Bull Battle Grounds in Atlanta. Then his partner MC has had experience with contender MMA, defeating him 4-2 in the 2014 WCS Season finals in Europe.
Park “DongRaeGu (DRG)” Soo Ho + Yoo “True” Ki Sung
As the two Zerg players in the tournament, DongRaeGu is no stranger to the Red Bull tournament by coming in 1st place in the 2014 Red Bull Battle Grounds: Global held in Calfornia. However, his partner True is a newcomer to this stage, with plenty of potential to prove.
Who will be able to win it all? As of right now it is anyones guess. However, we will be able to find out this Saturday at 12:30PM EST when the stream begins on Red Bull Battle Grounds‘ website.
