CD Projekt RED announces the launch of REDkit, the ultimate set of tools for crafting non-linear role-playing adventures. REDkit is based on the development tools used to create CD Projekt RED’s award-winning game, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The editor has just entered its open beta phase, allowing everyone who is waiting for The Witcher 3 to go back to the previous installment of the series and create new, amazing content or just play around with other modders’ creations.
REDkit gives modders of all skill levels the tools; they need to tell non-linear tales full of branching plots, believable characters and far-reaching consequences for player actions. Without learning to program or wrangling with opaque editors, game creators can use the top-quality art and assets from The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings or import their own, as well as intuitive tools for environment creation, to craft their own unique role-playing adventures.
REDkit requires a copy of PC version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, installed on your HDD.
REDkit includes:
- Advanced but still user-friendly terrain tools
- A realistic day and night cycle
- Astonishing graphics
- SpeedTree foliage system
- Full integration between the script language and the game editor
Steam copies of the game will be automatically patched to REDkit (Gamers’ Edition). Gamers’ Edition allows you to play mods created in REDkit; however, it does not include the editor. Do not install the REDkit patches downloaded from this website on your Steam copy of the game.
My personal thoughts:
I always love when new software comes out that allows the people to create their own video games. Also, since I am a Game Dev myself, I would enjoy using this kit in the future. I would also like to see how much accessibility they would allow in this. What would you like to see in this up-coming Game Dev Engine?
