Report: Halo Master Chief Collection to Xbox One This Year

We may be seeing a Halo collection including Halo 2, 3, and 4 later this year.

Today Halo 5: Guardians for the Xbox One was officially announced, and was given a Fall 2015 release date. We may not have to wait until 2015 to get our Halo fix, however,  if a report from Engadget is true.

According to Engadget, the Xbox One will be getting remastered versions of the first four Halo games this fall.

Citing unnamed sources, Engadget says that the collection will be called the Halo: Master Chief Collection, and will feature Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 4. As the set is the Master Chief Collection, it is unlikely that the collection will also include either Reach or ODST

This news matches information leaked on gaming forum NeoGAF earlier this year by user ntkrnl. ntkrnl mentioned that Halo 2, 3, and 4 would get HD remakes within the same year as Halo 5’s release. Unlike Engadget’s report, however, ntkrnl made no mention of Halo: Combat Evolved. The first Halo had already received an HD facelift in 2011 in celebration of Halo’s tenth anniversary.

Engadget gave no other details on the collection. It is unknown which studio will be handling the project, how the games will look, or how multiplayer will work. It is also unknown if Halo: Combat Evolved will be the same version released in 2011, or if it will be a new edition of the game

One of the main reasons that I wanted a Xbox 360 was to play Halo 3.

A collection like this could be a push into me picking up a Xbox One. I’m not much of a FPS player, but I still love Halo. It would be nice to play through these games with a HD facelift, and relive all those great memories. I am curious to see how multiplayer will work, as well as who it is that is working on this set. A collection like this will be a great wy to bid time until Halo 5 releases in fall 2015.
