Rooster Teeth Sets Record for Most Funded Indiegogo Film Campaign with “Lazer Team”

Rooster Teeth blasts Indiegogo Film Funding record in one month campaign for new live-action IP "Lazer Team"
This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

Rooster Teeth, the brilliant minds behind gamer favorite Red vs. Blue and action-packed anime web series RWBY are at it again with their largest project yet. Lazer Team deserves notice not only because it’s the studio’s first foray into live action media, though.  In only 10 hours of Rooster Teeth’s Indiegogo campaign the new IP became the #1 film project to ever be crowdfunded.

The original goal for the campaign was $650,000 but according to a press release issued Monday Lazer Team raised $2,480,241 overall after a single month!

Lazer Team is Rooster Teeth’s first venture into live action filming; it will be a feature-length sci-fi movie that takes place in 1970s America when SETI receives and decodes an alien transmission warning of galactic danger. When the government works with alien allies to create a powersuit, it fails to reach its destination and the Lazer Team must become the champions of Earth.

Rooster Teeth’s success highlights the power of crowdfunding from gaming communities. It was only a little over a year ago that Planescape Torment: Tides of Numenera shattered Kickstarter’s record for game funding almost as quickly as Lazer Team did for film.

This is not just an indication of the caliber of the studios behind the campaigns but also a sign of the success of crowdfunding itself in its endeavors to bring consumers exactly what they want. Whether it be a long-awaited for sequel to a game, a new film IP, or even potato salad – crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo are raising plenty of money to bring people what they want.

Congratulations again to RoosterTeeth. You can read more about the upcoming film as well as all of their projects here.
