Deep Silver announced the release of Saints Row 4 this morning along with a brand spankin’ new trailer. The Saints Row Facebook page states that the developer is Deep Silver Volition, a marked change after Volition was solid to Deep Silver during the THQ bankruptcy auction.

The official Facebook page also reveals that the head of the Saints is now president of the United States, and must combat aliens in order to save humanity. The trailer itself shows off some superhuman powers that players will be able to wield to fight their alien foes.

I would ask whether or not the series had jumped the shark, but that would imply they didn’t do that long ago. The Saints Row series was never meant to be serious or realistic. That said, I do miss the crazy, yet still a bit serious bits of the second game. Getting revenge was so sweet.

Deep Silver Volition will be presenting the game at PAX East. Saints Row 4 is scheduled for release for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on August 20 — mark your calendars!
