I’ve blogged about Firefly Online before, but here’s an update of meijianguo (unseen) proportions.
On Wednesday February 23, Firefly Online announced that Wil Wheaton will be the male voice lead for the upcoming game, a multiplayer strategic RPG set in Joss Whedon’s TV show universe.
Today, they announced (in an exclusive with the Mary Sue) that the female lead will be Courtenay Taylor. Taylor is no stranger to voice acting in video games, with credits in games such as Evolve, Mass Effect, Starcraft II, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Dragon Age: Origins.
As the player will be able to select the gender of their character, both voice actors will have the same script, which includes dialog in English, local dialects from planets in the Firefly universe, and—of course—plenty of Chinese swear words.
It’s unknown at this time whether Wheaton and Taylor will need a coach for the Chinese component, but it’s possible, given how clumsy some of the original actors were with the language.
Firefly Online is slated to be released in Spring 2015 on Windows and Mac OS desktop via Steam, and iOS and Android mobile devices. You can keep up with their news at their website, or with their companion app, Firefly Cortex.
