You won’t believe your eyes, but it’s true. Strider is back and now with 3D graphics, but still in your classic side-scroller style. Initially released in 1989, this was a classic arcade game which kids spent hours and countless quarters playing. Now, it’s coming out for the consoles so the modern-day kids can experience ninja fighting badass-ness too. And it’s great for nostalgic adults too. Maybe they can teach their kids a thing or two about video games.
So what’s the game going to be like? In case you didn’t catch a good glimpse of it in the trailer, the game is said to be in the “metroidvania” genre. It’s also going to be more open-world, so the levels are non-linear, giving you a chance to explore the various environments and gather power-ups and improve your combat abilities. Strider Hiryu’s sword, Cypher, will feature all of your favourite abilities, including some upgrades like setting your enemies ablaze. Strider himself will also have some cool new abilities like reflecting enemies’ bullets and having his infamous scarf turn to plasma. Feeling nostalgic yet?
The main companies working on this game are Double Helix and Capcom, so we expect great things. Release is scheduled in 2014 for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
