Ahoy! The Skull and Bones beta dates have been announced at Ubisoft Forward 2023, and registrations are open. Taking place between August 25 and August 28, you’ll need to sign up for the Closed Beta on the Ubisoft site and be chosen to participate. Along with the Closed Beta announcement, Skull and Bones spiced up the Ubisoft Forward presentation as Home Free performed the theme song for the game alongside a trailer that showed the game’s swashbuckling and naval combat in iaction.
Skull and Bones is a co-op pirate game where you can set off in search of treasure, engage in naval combat, and plunder enemy ships. With the aim of becoming the scourge of the Seven Seas, you’ll sail with hopes of not meeting Davy Jones during your youth.
For those that’ve been following Skull and Bones since it was announced as a freestanding game in 2017, there have been a multitude of pushbacks on the game’s release. Originally designed in 2013 as an expansion for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, the multiplayer pirate game has continuously morphed with the aim of building a great game for and with the community.
While the developers have been using the Insider Program to test Skull and Bones — smaller closed playtests and open betas to refine Skull and Bones — there are still things Ubisoft wants to make sure meet the standards of a larger group of playtesters.
If you’re interested in helping fine-tune the later stages of the game, including the naval combat system, be sure to register for the closed beta. Endgame development is still in progress, but updates are on their way, from what we’ve been told. Skull and Bones is slated for a fiscal year 2023-2024 release. Let’s hope the seas stay calm so it can sail smoothly to launch. Skull and Bones pre-orders are open now.
