Hades has pulled the Gods and the arena map to the underworld. Starting April 12, 2016 SMITE will be hosting the Escape from the Underworld event, which will last 4 weeks. This will cover the highlights for patch 3.6 as well as the Escape from the Underworld event.
Escape from the Underworld event
Coming with this event will be a host of new skins to go along with the underworld theme. Over the course of the event, Hi-Rez will be releasing four exclusive skins costing 400 gems each, with a fifth limited skin available as an Underworld collection bonus. Hades, Arachne, Hou Yi, and Guan Yu will be receiving the exclusive skins, while Nox will get the collection bonus skin.
During the Escape From The Underworld event, there will be a series of three quests that will guide you to freedom. Each quest will run for a limited time during the event. Complete quests to earn Limited items that will help unlock the Underworld Collection Bonus more easily – don’t miss out! Items available through quests include the Trapped Icon, Music Theme, and Escape Icon.
You will need to obtain 6 items in order to receive the exclusive Nox bonus skin. The items can be obtained by a combination of purchasing the skins and completing the 3 quests. Each quest will only be available for one week upon release, with the first quest beginning April 12th and a new quest following each week.
The last part of the event is the new artwork for the Arena map which is beautiful. Hades has pulled the arena into the underworld and it is surrounded by flames and lava. While the arena match itself stays the same, they have added a bonus round. Upon the completion of an Arena match, both teams will be ported to the center of the arena and surrounded by lava. It will be a sudden death match between both teams to earn a win towards the event’s first quest. Be careful, as touching the lava will lead to a very fast death.
Patch Notes
With the Underworld event comes patch 3.6, which brings plenty of buffs, item changes and even a god who takes flight.
Jing Wei: The Oathkeeper
Passive: Rapid Reincarnation
When exiting the fountain, Jing Wei prepares for takeoff and then ascends into the sky, allowing her to fly over obstacles at an increased speed. (Duration 5s.)
Persistent Gust
Jing Wei creates a gust of wind that deals (90/140/190/240/290 +90% of your Physical Power) damage and knocks up enemies when summoned. The gust persists for 6s and continues to knock up and deal additional (10/20/30/40/50 +5% of your Physical Power) damage to enemies every 1s. If Jing Wei walks onto the area, she is knocked up and gains an attack speed buff for 5s. Cost: 70/75/80/85/90. Cooldown: 14s.
- Attack Speed Buff 25%
Explosive Bolts
Jing Wei loads her crossbow with explosive bolts that augment her next 3 Basic Attacks. These attacks are wider, have increased critical chance, and deal area of effect damage. Cost: 70. Cooldown: 16s.
- Critical Chance 5/10/15/20/25%
Agility
Jing Wei dashes straight forward. She may use this ability while mid-air for a longer range dash and a 5s immunity to basic attack movement penalties. Cost: 75. Cooldown 20/18/16/14/12s.
Air Strike
Jing Wei channels briefly before taking to the sky. She then flies forward and upward while covering the area below her in explosions that damage (200/280/360/420/500 +100% of your Physical Power) all enemies in the area. After her attack, she hovers for up to 2s before landing at a ground target location. Cost: 100/110/120/130/140. Cooldown: 90s.
Jing Wei looks to be possibly the most mobile hunter in the game. Her passive is able to make it to the red buff from the fountain or between T1 and T2 towers in the solo lane. Some notes as well are that she cannot be pulled out of her passive by Awilix, but she can be pulled from Persistent Gust.
New God Skins
Coming in patch 3.6, we see Vamana and Neith receiving new tier 2 skins. Jing Wei will get a recolor skin, and my personal favorite from the patch is Odin’s panda skin, which can be seen below. This skin has some very nice particle effects to go along with it, and also a voice pack. Awilix will be getting her mastery skins redone in this patch as well.
Item Changes
Genji’s Guard
- No longer provides Crowd Control Reduction.
- Now provides +10% Cooldown Reduction.
- New Passive: When you take Magical Damage from Abilities your cooldowns are reduced by 2s. This can only occur once every 30s. This will not trigger if there are no skills on Cooldown.
- Reduced cost from
2400→ 2200.
Oni Hunter’s Garb
- Passive now regenerates every 10s, in or out of combat.
Spectral Armor
- New Passive: When you activate a Relic, you gain ghost walking for 4s, and can move through enemy players and enemy deployables.
- Increased additional Magical Power at 5 souls from
+30→ +60.
Shifter’s Shield
- Reduced cost from
2700→ 2400.
The big things with the gear changes seem to be with Genji’s Guard, Soul Stone, and Spectral Armor. Genji’s looks to be the magical version of Breastplate of Valor, while Soul Stone gets a nice buff and may be used as a starter item more often. Spectral armor is an interesting change — and with Odin being a strong pick in the current meta this can be an item that allows you to walk right out of his ultimate.
God Changes
Agni
- Increased base Attack Speed from
0.86→ 1. - Decreased % increase of Attack Speed per level from
1.01→ 0.95.
Apollo

- Healing increased from
40/60/80/100/120→ 50/70/90/110/130. - Damage increased from
50/75/100/125/150→ 65/90/115/140/165.

Sic’Em
- Increased Magical Scaling from
60%→ 75%
Crush
- Increased damage from
90/140/190/240/290→ 90/145/200/255/310.
Sylvanus
Nature’s Grasp
- Reduced cooldown from
26/24/22/20/18s→ 22/21/20/19/18s. - Reduced mana cost from
70/75/80/85/90→ 70/65/60/55/50.
Overall this patch brings a lot of changes, and I highlighted some of the biggest. Odin finally gets a long-awaited nerf to his ultimate, while Chang’e is trying to be brought back into the meta it seems.
