Last year, Sega announced that the next game in the Sonic Boom sub-series, Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice, would be delayed to 2016 to allow the developers more time to work on it — and also to coincide with Sonic the Hedgehog’s 25th anniversary. After months of being quiet, a release date has finally been given. Fire and Ice will release on September 27th of this year.
Along with this, SEGA also announced that a demo will be playable at this year’s E3, which will preview a special “launch” edition of the game.
This version will contain 3 episodes of the popular Sonic Boom series, 2 of which co-star Metal Sonic and Shadow the Hedgehog.
Before Fire and Ice, Sega released Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and Shattered Crystals in 2014 — both of which where panned by fans and critics a like, even receiving lower Metacritic scores to the notorious Sonic the Hedgehog for Xbox 360 (AKA Sonic 06), though its TV series was more well received, even getting renewed for a second season.
