Sega has told GamesIndustry International that they tend to bring one of gaming’s biggest brands to the OUYA, Sonic the Hedgehog, when the consoles launches later this month on June 25th. They plan to launch three titles for the console on June 27th, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II, and Sonic CD.

All three of the games will be optimized for the device, which sports an NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor and feature a free-to-try business model. This means the first few levels of each game will be available for free. If you like them, they’ll be purchasable for $6.99 each.

Sega is an example of the types of developers that are coming to Ouya. We’ve always said that because Ouya is open, we lower the barriers for any type of developer, whether it’s AAA or a newcomer. We’re going to see all types of developers and games on Ouya. We’re excited to have Sega as a partner, they’re a great publisher. Sonic is an iconic brand and we think it’s just going to add to the fun of playing on Ouya,” said Ouya founder and CEO Julie Uhrman.

Uhrman says both parties are very excited about the new partnership and that they aren’t worried that the same games can already be found on the iOS and Google Play Store. While they’re always looking for exclusive content to bring to the OUYA, they want players to be able to enjoy the classic titles too.

“Gamers like to play all different types of games. They like play games that they have a strong affiliation with on all different types of platforms. I’m not surprised that we’re seeing titles come to Ouya that are on other platforms. I think gamers will love to play Sonic on the television through Ouya,” Uhrman said.

But with “16,000 developers” signed up to develop for the OUYA, I don’t think they’ll run into trouble anytime soon about finding exclusive content for the console.
