Long-running simulation racing video game series Gran Turismo is going to get its first ever movie. A Sony Computer Entertainment UK representative has confirmed with Joystiq that a Gran Turismo movie is in production. The Sony representative said that the film is “being made”, but did not provide any further details on the production.
A report surfaced from Hollywood news site The Wrap, telling us that the film is being tied to the producers of The Social Network and 50 Shades of Grey, Mike de Luca and Dana Brunetti with support from a trio of Sony Pictures execs. Sony Pictures president Michael Lynton had promised us at the PlayStation E3 press conference, that a movie based on a massive PlayStation franchise was going to happen.
The success of fast car films is something to cash in on. Seeing how well Universal’s The Fast and the Furious series has done. Looking at Dreamworks’ adaptation of EA’s Need for Speed and the upcoming Hot Wheels movie based on Mattel’s line of popular children’s toys, we have a few racing movies to watch at for.
As of this moment, no other details are available about the Gran Turismo movie, except for the project’s existence. Do you think Sony can make a GT movie that will be even more thrilling than Fast and Furious series? Or will they just fall flat? Leave your comments and questions below.
