Sony says Evolution Studios tried virtual reality for Driveclub, but it didn't work out.

Driveclub was supposed to be a launch title for the PlayStation 4. However, it has suffered two delays: The first pushed it into 2014, and the second pushed it even farther down the road.

Perhaps it was because developer Evolution Studios was experimenting with Sony’s new virtual reality tech, dubbed “Project Morpheus.” Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida confirmed to GameSpot that in fact, the studio tried implementing VR, but it didn’t quite fly.

Yoshida tried it himself and said while it worked well at low speeds, higher speeds resulted in awkwardness and motion sickness. Hence, Evolution “is not working on Morpheus at all” and instead, “all their effort” is toward completing the game.

That all being said, Yoshida said this VR experiment is not the reason the game was delayed, although many are finding that comment difficult to believe. If you attempt to utilize a very new technology, at least some time and resources went into that preparation, right?

Virtual reality racing actually sounds cool

I’ve already spoken out against this new technology, but I have to say I might actually try virtual reality racing. I’m still sure it’ll give me a raging headache but just to experience it might be worth a little pain. Still, I’m good with any racing game where I just use a steering wheel… hell, I’d still be satisfied with the regular controller.
