Nintendo’s super successful series, Super Mario Bros, was once made into a feature film. In-case you missed the original 1993 release, don’t fear! If you live in the New York area, you can view the work of art (note: sarcasm) again, a whopping 20 years later!
As of May of 2013, the popular movie review website, RottenTomatoes.com, featured 32 reviews and only 16% of the reviews gave positive feedback about the flick. 16% of 32 reviews isn’t bad compared to the reviews the movie received when it was originally released; the Chicago Tribune (with the Chicago Sun-Times) placed the production on their list of “worst movies in 1993”.
In case you do want to see the special screening, here are the details:
Where: Sunshine Cinema, New York, NY
When: Friday June 21st & Saturday June 22nd – Starting at 11:45 pm
Why: Good question.
Good news: The actress who played the role of Daisy, Samantha Mathis, will be making a guest appearance.
(She is the one in the middle)
The feature film will be shown in 35mm film too; at least the quality is something to look forward to!
Nintendo, stick to game developing and please don’t sell anymore movie rights that might damage the reputation of a series! Obviously this feature film’s negative reviews upon release didn’t neglect the series that we all grew up playing!
