Are you picking up a New Nintendo 3DS this coming Friday? Perhaps you also plan to get Monster Hunter or Majora’s Mask to play. Well for those who are looking forward to the Smash Bros. experience on their shiny new 3DS, a new feature that will be only available for the New Nintendo 3DS will be available before the system is even released. This is amiibo support with the official patch to Super Smash Bros. For 3DS.

According to an email sent to NintendoLife:

A free update will also be released on 10th February for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS that will enable amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. Collection to be used with the new systems.

This means that you will soon be able to bring your trained amiibo from your Wii U to your New Nintendo 3DS. The NFC technology that allows you to read data from these figures will be baked in under the bottom screen, so all you have to do is tap your figure on the screen and you are good to go.

If you are still holding onto one of the original 3DS systems, you will have to wait a little bit longer for amiibo support, as an external attachment will be released later, but a specific date has yet to be announced.
