Surviving Mars from Haemimont Games and Paradox Interactive has a future on the red planet’s horizon, and that future is all green.
Expansion Green Planet has been announced, which will give players new features with which to terraform Mars and further enrich the mid- to late-game experience. This is a very welcome announcement, considering how the late-game plays out in Surviving Mars at the time of writing.
With the expansion, players will be able to take the barren vastness of Mars and turn it green by planting vegetation and terraforming the landscape. What we can’t pull off right now in real life, we’ll be able to do in Surviving Mars.
Anyone who’s combed the game’s Steam forum at one point or another knows terraforming has always been the playerbase’s biggest request. Gabriel Dobrev, CEO at Haemimont Games, said the development team wanted to get the expansion right.
Terraforming the surface of Mars is something that has captivated gamers and the human imagination for as long as we can remember. It’s something that we took special care to develop and make sure we got right.
Terraforming has been our community’s most-requested feature since Surviving Mars launched last year and we are thrilled to finally share it with the Green Planet expansion.
However, even Surviving Mars players who don’t pick up the Green Planet expansion have something to look forward to. Owners of just the base game will be getting a free update at the same time as the Green Planet expansion.
Console players don’t have to worry, either. Surviving Mars: Green Planet will be launching not only on PC but also on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the second quarter for 2019.
Expect further announcements and reveals as we leave the first quarter of the year and slide right on into the second come next month. Green Planet‘s release on console can’t be that far off.
