Nippon Ichi is best known in North America for the Disgaea series and the huge list of anime fan-pandering titles they’ve published over the past decade. Would you believe they’ve pumped out enough strategy RPGs to get into the Guinness Book of World Records? Probably.
Considering Nippon Ichi was established in Japan in 1993 and specialized in strategy RPGs for the longest time, it’s not a surprise they’ve published the most strategy RPGs. A large chunk of what comes from them even today is in the genre.
You could argue that the games they publish just try too hard to pander to a certain demographic (you know who you are), but the point here is quantity. With that said, a lot of N1’s games do try to do something new — and they’re usually pretty fun.
What solidified the company’s place in the Guinness Book of World Records was the fourteen strategy RPGs they released between the year 2003 and 2009. No matter what you think about Nippon Ichi and their games, it’s impressive they they’ve published so many massive and addictive timesinks. Good on you, N1.
