Bethesda’s just announced the release date (with accompanying teaser!) for The Evil Within’s second DLC The Consequence, a follow-up to The Assignment. The Assignment just came out March 10th, so Bethesda hasn’t released many/any details yet. The teaser doesn’t look super-informative. We see protagonist Juli Kidman holding a gun, a surreal void, and a conspicuously placed sign for a town called Paranoia. Juli walks forward for a couple seconds, light floods the screen, we hear a scream, then a voice-over (presumably Juli) saying, “I’m not running this time.”
What can we expect from the latest expansion of Evil Within lore? The Assignment was around three and a half hours of gameplay; The Consequence will provide about the same. In The Assignment, Juli’s arsenal is limited to the occasional axe, unlike Sebastian’s storyline where the player has a whole range of weapons to choose from, necessitating more stealth-based gameplay in the DLC chapters. However, the in-engine footage in The Consequence’s teaser shows Juli carrying a gun. It seems unlikely that Bethesda would do away with the stealth elements that made The Assignment so well-received, but Juli’s line from the teaser plus the addition of firearms suggest Juli’s methods taking a turn for the confrontational. The Consequence will focus on Juli’s past and her motives for working with Mobius. According to director John Johanas, The Consequence is influenced by other well-known DLCs/expansion packs such as Dishonored’s Knife of Dunwall and Brigmore Witches, Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, and Diablo 2’s Lord of Destruction.
Look for The Evil Within: The Consequence Tuesday, April 21st for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, and PC!
