Telltale Games has revealed in a new blog post that its upcoming title, Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series will include content from A Dance with Dragons, the fifth book in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. It will also follow the TV show’s storyline from the end of Season Three to the beginning of Season Five.

Posted early this morning, it delves into how the player will fit into the expansive ASOIAF universe and the main storyline. Gamers will take control of five members of House Forrester, a lower house located in the north of Westeros. Each of these characters, described as “either a direct family member, or a person in service to the House,” will allow the player to visit most of the series’ memorable locations, such as King’s Landing, the Wall, and the Free Cities. Ironrath, the seat of House Forrester, will also make an appearance.

Built over fifteen hundred years ago by Cedric Forrester and his triplet sons, Ironrath is a testament to the strength and endurance of Ironwood. The Forrester house words are ‘Iron from Ice’, which echoes their belief that – like the ironwood itself – the adverse conditions and unforgiving landscape of the North only makes them stronger.

The central objective of the game will be to “save House Forrester from destruction.” Implied in the post is that the five characters’ interwoven narratives will result in larger consequences for House Forrester based on their individual decisions.

Given that George R.R. Martin only briefly mentions House Forrester in A Dance with Dragons, Telltale will have room to build a fresh, original storyline to parallel the better-known events from the show. And Ty Corey Franck, Martin’s personal assistant, is reportedly working with Telltale as a “story consultant.”

Telltale says that Episode One will be be “arriving for download soon on PC/Mac, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and iOS, with additional platforms to be announced.” And while the game still has no definite release date, Telltale’s PR spokeswoman has mentioned that Episode One will debut in 2014.
