It seems like it was just yesterday when Rising launched and ushered TERA into the free to play title it is today. TERA: Rising‘s six month anniversary comes up next month, and three months ago En Masse Entertainment announced the game had garnered 1.4 million players since it went free to play.
Massively spoke with an En Masse representative at E3 who revealed that North American server is nearing 2 million players. This is quite something for a game that pulled in 700,000 players at retail launch and saw relatively low player numbers until its free to play transition.
One thing to note is that, despite the En Masse rep’s claims that the game is North America-only, the game has a substantial international playerbase located on EME’s servers. Players from South America, Europe (avoiding GameForge), Australia, and New Zealand joined the North American playerbase with Rising‘s launch. Claiming that even half of the players on TERA NA are from North America may be stretching it a bit.
As the game continues to grow in players, it is also growing in content. TERA will be seeing a sizable content update next month, featuring an alliance system and the mega-hyped 20v20 battlegrounds. The new updates may just push player numbers past 2 million, but we’ll have to wait and see!
