It has become an increasingly common practice for games to be released on different dates and at different times. This is often determined by factors like what edition of the game players purchase, or the services they subscribe to, and it appears that The Division 2 is set to follow a similar model.
As recently revealed by Ubisoft, The Division 2 will have a staggered launch. Access will be determined by the edition that players pre-order, their region, and if they are using Uplay, the company’s digital distribution platform.
In general, the players that gain access first will be those that have pre-ordered Gold and Ultimate Editions of the game, and they will be able to begin playing on March 12 at 12 a.m. local time.
To note, this means that players in New Zealand and Australia will be the first in the game, due to the time zone of these countries.
For those that simply pre-order The Division 2‘s Standard Edition, they will be given access on March 15 at 12 a.m. local time. This date also marks the game’s official public release.
While this is all relatively straightforward, things are slightly complicated by the fact that fans playing the game through Uplay will have their own start times, which are based on region and what edition they pre-order. For some regions, this means even earlier access than that which is granted to those not using Ubisoft’s distribution platform.
For example, players that pre-order Gold and Ultimate Editions of the game through Uplay, and are based on the West Coast of the United States, can begin playing on March 11 at 10 p.m. local time. Players that will be playing the title on Uplay should reference the graphics provided by Ubisoft for exact timing.
As mentioned, this type of staggered release is not likely to surprise players that are familiar with titles like Anthem and Battlefield 5. The Division 2‘s launch may be slightly more straightforward than what was seen with these titles, but it may still have some fans scratching their heads as they try to determine exactly when they can play the new game.
Full details on The Division 2‘s release schedule can be found on the game’s website.
