When EA announced that their revered and long-running PGA Tour franchise was taking a break, golf fans everywhere were disappointed.
But don’t worry, it’s Canadian independent developer HB Studios to the rescue! They may not be on your radar, but they’ve assisted EA Sports with several titles in the past, so they’re probably qualified to pull this off.
The studio has announced The Golf Club, a fully realized golf simulator scheduled to launch this spring for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. They don’t have the official licensing necessary to produce courses based on real-life courses, but they will deliver procedurally generated courses. This means they can offer an “infinite” number of interesting, challenging courses that are never the same twice!
The team has also designed the game with speed and accessibility in mind. In other words, loading times will be extremely minimal. There’s no loading between holes and only a brief loading time when you switch courses. They will also provide us with online multiplayer, a course editor, tours and tournaments, and an “intuitive” control system.

Anybody else miss Hot Shots Golf?
I wish they’d make a new installment for the PS4. It has always been my favorite golf series, just because it combines a fun, lighthearted atmosphere with the heart of a simulator. What a lot of people never understood was that beneath that cutesy exterior was a pretty realistic game. You had to account for everything you’d normally have to consider in PGA Tour (crosses fingers).
