There hasn’t been an extremely well received video game movie in, well, ever. But, Hollywood continues to try. Coming down the pipe line is buzz for a Just Cause movie.

The first Just Cause game, debuting on PS2, Xbox and Xbox 360, slipped under the radar pretty well. It wasn’t until the sequel, Just Cause 2, that the series gained popularity. Just Cause 3, due out next year, aims to set the explosive bar even higher.

The series stars Rico Rodriguez, a mercenary who’s thrown into difficult situations in beautiful locals. Rico is pretty much a one man army and uses his arsenal to fend off enemies who range from soldiers to tanks and helicopters. His most unusual item is his grappling hook, which makes scaling objects and moving around quick and fun.

The upcoming movie, producer Adrian Askarieth says, is very close to getting started. Just Cause 3 is going to be a big inspiration for the planned film. He also said:

“In terms of action, I think Just Cause has just as much right to be called an action movie as The Fast and the Furious. They’re both outlandish.”

Askarieth also expressed interest in a shared Square Enix movie universe. Meaning, the newest Hitman movie and future Tomb Raider, Just Cause and a possible Deus Ex movie would be in the same universe. Even though shared universes are the in thing now, this still sounds like a stretch.

Just Cause 3 comes out on December 1st for PS4, Xbox One and PC
