It seems a Last of Us film is in the works. Movie studio Screen Gems, who distributed the Resident Evil movie franchise, announced today that they signed on distribute a live action film based off of the PS3 title. Sam Raimi, director of The Evil Dead and the Spiderman trilogy, and Ghost House Pictures, are also tied into the project, with Raimi being among its team of producers.
Presidents Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra, and Game Director Bruce Straley are also all involved with the project. Wells said of the project:
“Since our game released last June, we’ve talked with many companies about making a film, but we couldn’t have found better partners who share our creative vision and high standards. We look forward to collaborating with Sam, his team, and Screen Gems, to make a movie that will thrill fans of The Last of Us and general audiences worldwide.”
The Last of Us released last year to critical acclaim. It won multiple awards, including Game of the Year awards for 2013, and was one of the most successful games of last year. There is still no word of any actors who being considered to play Joel and Ellie in The Last of Us film, nor an estimated release date.
