The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Release Date Reveals When You’ll Play as Smeagol

Gollum will slink out of the shadows just in time for summer.

The release date for Daedalic Entertainment’s The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is finally here. The adventure game will emerge from its shadowy hiding spot on May 25, 2023, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. A Nintendo Switch version is planned for some time later in 2023.

After revealing a new story trailer earlier this week, the company felt the time was right to let fans know when they’ll be able to get their hands on the precious.

Based on the book series that needs no introduction, Gollum takes you through the lands of Middle-earth from a new perspective. Starring as the lowly, corrupted hobbit Smeagol, you’ll need stealth and cunning to get past the horrors that stand in your way as you seek out the Ring of Power.

In a story-driven action-adventure experience, you’ll be given a choice to indulge Gollum’s darker, more chaotic side or deal with situations with Smeagol’s kinder nature. While Peter Jackson’s film trilogy has given people an idea of what Gollum is, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is looking to take that expectation and turn it on its head.

Previously, we were able to take an early look at The Lord of the Rings: Gollum and we found “the promise of something intriguing” in the oft-delayed game. There, we spoke to Daedalic’s Publishing Director, Jonas Hüsges, who said the team wanted to make Gollum “sympathetic.” Stay tuned for more on the game as we approach its release date in just a few months.
