Yesterday the official Microsoft drivers for the Xbox One controller for the PC were released. Yay!
Not only does this make the Xbox One controller compatible with a PC, these drivers also work with the Surface Pro 3. Microsoft’s Larry Hryb aka Major Nelson posted: “We’re planning to release the drivers as part of a Windows update in the near future; however, today, I am happy to offer early access to our dedicated PC gamers.”
So far these drivers only function on the wired controllers because there isn’t a wireless dongle for the Xbox One controller, yet. With all the announcements going into E3, this is just another boost for Microsoft’s marketing.
Will I give in and immediately upgrade my controller? Not yet. I’m going to wait a little longer for any other surprises during E3 before adding another component to my battlestation. But, let’s say, if one of my controllers was at the point of slowly giving out then I wouldn’t hesitate to switch over and start playing my games on my PC.
