The wonderful developers of The Witcher 2 have released a treat for us–the REDkit toolset (beta version) is now available for download.
Earlier this week the developers accidentally released the tools early while running some tests on the kit, and one of the managers put out a statement confirming it.
“We were running some tests on the website and it went public for a brief moment. Those of you who have downloaded the REDKit files — have fun — they are official so don’t worry!”
As of May 13th, the official updated beta set has been released and is totally free to download. The toolset was used by the developers to create The Witcher 2 and now you too can use it to mod The Witcher or create your own unique story. Created by CD Projekt Red, the tools are easy to use even for newbies to the modding scene; you will be able to create new environments, new quests, and new characters if you wish or you can modify existing ones in the game.
“Our fans have helped us for years to make our games the best they can be, and REDkit is part of embracing our community as a partner in game development.”
Personally I can’t wait to start adding things to the Witcher 2 world–anytime a game developer releases something like this my inner-nerd kicks into overdrive. If you have the urge to check out these awesome tools head over to thewitcher.com/redkit to download it for free today.
