There is often controversy surrounding the release of DLC packs these days. It seems that every game released anymore immediately turns around and offers additional content, so long as players are willing to pay for it. A ‘season pass’ is sometimes offered, packaging multiple DLC for a slightly reduced cost. But having just shelled out the better part of $60 or more for the game, players often react unhappily when confronted with the idea of paying more money.
CD Projekt Red feels the same way. In an open letter to fans on their website today, CEO and co-founder Marcin IwiÅ„ski announced that The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt would not be charging fans for any DLC. “At CD PROJEKT RED, we strongly believe this is not the way it should work and, with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we have decided to do it differently.”
That means that regardless of whether you play on Xbox One, PS4, or PC, all of the DLC content will be available without any extra costs to the player. The first two sets will release on February 25th, the day after the game’s release, and will contain an armor set, and beard and hairstyle set for Geralt, the game’s hero. You don’t have to pre-order the game to get these, either. Just own a copy of The Witcher 3, and the DLC is yours to download. The plan is to release them in packs of two per week, following the release of the initial DLC. Marcin closed the letter by saying “This is our way of saying thank you for buying our game.”
