It seems CD Projekt Red will not play favorites when it comes to their current project, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. In a conversation with Eurogamer, CD Projekt Red shot down the possibilities of console exclusive content.
Gaming equality
According to CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwinski:
“We are treating all gamers equally…We’ll not deliver exclusive content to any of the platforms, nor will we artificially delay release of the game on any of the platforms because somebody’s paying us money for that. It’s definitely against our values. We are not doing that.”
With E3 coming soon, we may see The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on stage once again. “Hopefully,” says Iwinski. He adds, “What we are doing in terms of marketing cooperation, you’ll see that at E3.”
While there will be no form of multiplayer in TheWitcher 3, it does sound like we may see some type of online social sharing. “We will be talking about it when the time comes,” says Iwinski. “It’s too early right now.”
The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt has been set for a February 2015 release. The game was originally set for release this year, but CD Projekt Red delayed it earlier this year. The Witcher 3 is a rare title in that it is a next-gen-only multi platform release.
The stance that CD Projekt Red is taking with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is certainly one that I can respect.
We often hear of a company favoring a console and releasing content early or releasing console exclusive content. Sometimes we can even see a delayed release. I think it is good that CD Projekt Red is not playing favorites with The Witcher 3, and are just focusing on a great game on all the consoles that they are releasing the game for. With so many companies selling-out these days, seeing a company that sticks to their values is really refreshing.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been one of my most anticipated games since I picked up my PlayStation 4. I cannot wait to pick this game in early 2015. Hopefully CD Projekt Red uses their time wisely and releases a game worth the wait.
