His involvement was announced in 2013, but now it has become official news: Charles Dance, also known as Tywin Lannister on HBO’s Game of Thrones, will be voicing emperor Emhyr var Emreis of the Empire of Nilfgaard in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
CD Projekt RED posted up a behind-the-scenes video where Charles Dance talks about his role and his very first voice acting experience. He lets us know that this is a “whole new world” for him, and “it’s quite exciting, actually.” Dance doesn’t hide the fact that his character in The Witcher 3 has some similarities with his character in Game of Thrones:
“My character is… he’s a very, very powerful man, probably the most powerful man. And as such, he doesn’t need to throw his weight around. He’s a man of few words, [and] the words he speaks speak volumes. And he’s ruthless. He’s ruthless because he has to be.”
The video, in addition to showing Dance recording lines for the character, also reveals some gameplay footage and some main plot points involving Emhyr var Emreis.
Friend or foe?
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt continues Geralt de Riv’s story with a new mission. The world order is changing and the Wild Hunt army is invading the Northern Kingdoms. Along the way, Geralt will meet emperor Emhyr var Emreis, who will ask of him to find a woman in order to teach her a lesson. The emperor is a tortured soul, stressed by his past and running the empire. He could end up being a fine ally for our hero… or a dangerous enemy.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be released May 19th to PS4, Xbox One and PC.
