During a May 27 livestream, Square Enix announced three separate games based on the Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai manga and anime series.
The first game announced was Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai – Spirit of Bonds (Tamashii no Kizuna in Japanese) for iOS and Android. It has been described as an RPG with the simple objective of just moving forward, with the lead character protecting the other party members while those members provide support.
Besides featuring characters from the manga and anime series, the game will also feature equipment found throughout the Dragon Quest video game series. Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai – Spirit of Bonds is planned to launch on iOS and Android devices in Japan in 2021.
The second game revealed was Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai – Xross Blade, a “competitive arcade card game” that sees players place cards on an arcade cabinet to move characters and perform other specific actions. It is planned to release for arcades in Japan in Fall 2020.
The final game revealed was Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai – Infinity Strash, which is currently planned for release on unspecified consoles. Not much else was revealed besides another teaser trailer with some action-oriented gameplay, but Square Enix stated the footage is from a very early stage of development. It is planned for release on consoles in Japan in 2021.
Additionally, it was revealed that the remake of the Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai anime series is planned to premiere in Japan in October 2020. It is a remake of the 1989 manga and 1991 anime series of the same name, the latter of which was never finished. The main character Dai has also appeared as a playable character in Jump Force.
It is not yet known if any of these games will release outside of Japan but make sure to stay tuned for any updates.
