Recently, Twitch has announced that it is acquiring Curse to its platform to bolster its ability to provide content to fans of gaming worldwide.
Twitch was introduced in 2011 as a gaming spin off from Justin.tv. The platform is used regularly to broadcast video game playthroughs, eSports competitions, creative content and even music broadcasts. As Twitch gained popularity, it set notable records. In 2015, it reported having over 1.5 million broadcasters and 100 million views per month. The social video platform has also been recognized as the fourth largest driver of traffic within the United States.
Curse, Inc. was founded in 2006 as an online gaming portal and network of gaming websites. They’ve created various programs and services as well. For example, their Curse voice client has served as an add-on and mod for games such as World of Warcraft, Minecraft, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and etc. Another platform they created was Gamepedia, which hosts over 1,000 pages of gaming-related wiki content. As of 2013, they garnered over 30 million unique viewers across their network.
And now the leading social video platform and one of the leading portals for gaming have joined together. The acquisition will allow Twitch to continue to grow in its dedication to provide more gaming content.
